HomaAhuti materials (Dravyas) differs based on your needs. Normaly we offer Cow’s ghee, Bermuda grass, (Doorva) Arkasamit. SahasraModakahoma is a very famous one. AshtadravyaHoma, predominantly, the Ashtadhravyahoma (mixing of 8 different materials) is done. The Ashtadravya consists of 1. Modhaka, (a type of sweet) 2. Pruthuka, (beaten Rice) 3. Puffed paddy,(Laja) 4. Flour (Saktu) 5. Sugarcane, (Ikshudanda) 6. Coconut, (Nalikera) 7. Sesame seeds (Thila ) and 8. Bananas, (Kadali). Each material resembles a lord (Devatha). The invocation of the lord (Devatha) will be done before the homa. Three other materials (Dravyas) are mixed i.e., jaggery,(Guda) honey (Madhu), and Ghee (Ghritha). If any of the 8 materials not available, then as an exception, whatever homa materials are available one can use it for the homa.
